Taxonomies that hold up in production
Taxonomy projects rarely fail at the design stage. They fail six months later, when nobody remembers who is allowed to add a term and the editorial team has quietly routed around the schema. I design structures that survive contact with editors, migrations and search.
Taxonomy in production
- Audit
- Assessment report with findings
- Map of the gaps between the schema and how content is actually tagged
- Recommendations ranked by cost-to-impact
- Closing workshop with the team
- Design
- Taxonomy in SKOS, CSV or your system's native format
- Documented rules: division criteria, definitions, scope notes
- Mapping rules from the previous structure
- A set of retrieval tests for verification
- Governance
- Vocabulary governance document
- Change proposal and approval path
- Review schedule and checklist
- Training for the people who tag

All work →Every piece of work with its numbers, division architecture and an explicit boundary of what it does not cover. The public register shows open research and in-house systems where full data, rules and decision logs can be inspected without NDA constraints.

A taxonomy whose rules were put through a blind reproducibility test
A classification of psychological games, phenomena and methods in which every category boundary is a yes/no rule — and in which those rules went through a blind test, repair and re-measurement before earning a new version number.

A taxonomy of violent death on six independent axes
A model that, instead of a single "manner of death" label, describes each death on six axes — unit of analysis, agency, intent, consent, institutional mandate, place in the causal chain — and so settles the cases where one-dimensional categories break.

What it rests on
This field has a century of theory that the digital industry rediscovers every decade under a new name. I keep an open bibliography — 81 entries from three traditions and Polish scholarship, annotated.
